I have set the Lord always before me. Because HE is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure. Psalm 16:8-9 NIV
I don’t think I could survive if that happened to me. How many times have you thought this when you hear of tragedy or loss? We’ve all witnessed people whose lives have been torn apart by terrible circumstances. A mother loses her tiny baby; a husband faces an uncertain future as his wife battles cancer; a family’s dreams are dashed when their business fails. We watch them, we mourn with them, and in our hearts we fear that if the same were to happen us, we would fall apart.
Yet , over and over, people are faced with their worst fears come true—and they survive. In fact, some actually thrive and end up better, stronger, and more joyful than before. The grieving mother becomes an inspiration to other women going through loss. The husband and wife come to know a greater and deeper love than they’ve ever known because of the struggle they endured together. The family finds the joy and power in teamwork and gets a new business up and running—together .
This is the miracle of God’s grace. He gives us when we need to face each day and each situation. We cant save it up like some rainy-day fund. We must lean on our Lord for what we need each day, each hour, each moment, trusting that His grace will come through. When we do, we find the strength to make it—even through the darkest times, the times we feared would destroy us.
So the next time you wonder, Could I survive that? Remember: Trust in God’s grace. He will always come through when you need Him the most.
Grace for Today: We must lean on our Lord for what we need each day, each hour, each moment, trusting that HIS grace will see us through.
